Nerdsworth Academy

Bully, Failed a Test.

I got an “F” on my Bully Livestream attempt.

Hey all,

Yes, it’s true: I totally failed my first serious Livestream attempt. I don’t like failing so miserably. Live and learn, live an learn.

The plan was to showcase my initial impressions of a game that I’d never played: Rockstar’s Bully: Scholarship Edition. The premise of the game is that you play a boy who is sent to the roughest school in the entire country, Bullworth Academy. Once there, you attend classes, make friends, get beat up by bullies, and do a bit of bullying yourself. It’s basically Grand Theft Bording School.

It was available for under $4 on Steam a few days ago, so I snagged it up and installed it. With the game ready, I fired up my Livestream and started recording.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the audio balanced properly, so my voice was almost completely blocked out by the in-game audio. It really sucks too, since I was enjoying the process so much that I decided to play the game for about 40 minutes. Obviously I’m not used to speaking when I’m playing (or speaking in general, I tend to be on the quiet side) so I wasn’t expecting to come out incredibly clever, just honest. However, all the honesty and cleverness was inaudible.

So, if anyone out there wants to see some footage of the first half-hour of Bully, here it is:

(All of my future Livestream fails (and potentially successes) will also be available on my Livestream page.)

I think what I’ll do is a second impressions in a week or so. The reason for the delay is that I’ve ordered a nice webcam that I’d like to use to augment my impressions, and I don’t really want to balance the audio for my current microphone, only to have to do so again with the new webcam.

Until then, don’t get beat up!

Cheers,
-S

May I just say you sound entirely different in this recording than you do in person. It is very strange and I almost didn’t recognize your voice. Also, what is up with that lady that meets you at the front gate? She seems a little weird. I can’t wait for your new equipment to come so that you can do more videos where we can actually hear you.

Aww… thanks for the comment! <3

I think a big part of me sounding different is my cheap headset mic. It was $15 around 5 years ago, and although it's held up well, I think it's time for some new gear. I'm always a bit surprised by the sound of my own voice on recording as well… I sound monotone & get self-conscious about it.

It also might've been that I was doing the recording late at night, so I was trying to be a little bit quiet. But my guess is it's the hardware.
